Valentine's Day Dinner Date Guide 2015 (Bastrop)

Valentine's Day is only a week away, have you made plans for your sweetie yet? No?!?! That's ok...we're here to help! Here are our picks for Valentine's Day Dinner, whether it's a romantic night for two, or a family celebration, Bastrop has a spot for every BIRDIE!

1. For Drinks Viejo's Taco's y Tequila:

Wanna cozy up with your honey first? Where else but Viejo's?! This birdie has a taste for tequila and the boys at Viejo's offer a great choice of margarita's and specialty tequila cocktails (Try the Basil Antigua!!), and they have a GREAT menu of tacos and tapas to start off your night.

2. For the Romance Piney Creek Chop House:

This is a fun place to go for just the two of you. It's dimly lit and has an array of nice wines and decadent deserts. You can order a choice cut filet or go lighter with chicken, and it's so nice to have a peaceful evening with that special someone. Want a peek at their extra special couples' menu for V-day? Click here.

3. For the family Bastiano's:

How fun would it be to share a big plate of spaghetti?

And nothing says "amore" like a "big pizza pie", amirite? They've got some amazing specials going that night, and will even set your table with a cloth and rose! (How sweet!) Although we have not actually eaten at Bastiano's yet, we fully intend to, and have a reservation for 2 + 2.5 little birdies this Valentine's Day. Think you could spot us? I can't WAIT to try their famous gelato for dessert!

4. Lucky Duck! Baxter's on Main:

Baxter's is and always will be one of our most favorite restaurants in Bastrop, and if you're lucky enough to have Valentine's Day reservation set, then you're in for a real treat. I'm told they have an EXTRA special menu planned just for you! Unfortunately on V-day they are booked straight...BUT they are serving the same menu Friday night and have plenty of openings then. We LOVE Baxter's, you can always count on a good quality meal and friendly service. It's a beautiful establishment and they totally welcome the little one's. (Hey! Little birdies gotta eat too! And they deserve a little splurge every now an then just like Mom and Dad!)

5. For Dessert Maxine's on Main:

NOTHING tops off the perfect meal like a great cup of coffee and some amazing desserts. By far the best desserts in town can be found at Maxine's AND they will even have a really tasty dinner menu that night too! They'll have your choice of fire grilled rib eye, or grilled salmon as specials.

To top it all off 365 Bastrop tells us there will be carriage rides downtown V-day night! Talk about THE PERFECT Valentine's Day date...your honey will SWOON! Call and make your reservations now, here's the info. What will you do Valentine's Day? Tell us in the comments below!

Meet 'N Eat: Paw Paw's Catfish House

If you didn't make it out to the first Meet 'N Eat this last Tuesday, you CAN'T miss the next! Joleen Smith over at 365 things to do in Bastrop County organized an amazing event for neighbors to come together, enjoy some of the local faire, and just enjoy a beautiful day! We got to eat at Paw Paw's Catfish House on Main Street in Downtown Bastrop and of course I brought the birdie crew so that we could get some good grubbin' goin', on and give you the scoop! Here's what we had:

We ordered the Texican Burger (great kick but not too spicy!)

Shrimp baskets (nice batter!)

A chicken basket (for the littlest birdies, and no picture...they dove right in!!)

Everything came out in a timely manner, the burger was juicy (and like I said had a nice kick!), the shrimp were cooked well and plump, and everything was hot. We enjoyed the quality of the food (SO IMPORTANT, especially with fish!) and the clean and friendly atmosphere. We had AWESOME service (tell my girl Krystal HI!) and we really could not have asked for a better host for such an amazing event!

We ended up spending some time with neighbors and really awesome business owners and members of the community! I see great things coming from this gathering, it would be a GREAT excuse for like minds to come together and DO SOME GOOD in Bastrop County.

Anything Go's (Bastrop, Tx).

I have a new favorite burger in town and you HAVE to go and try it. Here, wait. Let me show you...

And that doesn't even do it justice. It's juicy...it's seasoned well and there's this oh so creamy buttermilk sauce. WHAT?!?!?! Yah. Buttermilk sauce. Not to mention the soft and airy bun (or sandwich roll anyway but it's PERFECT!!) And guess where it's all at??

A. Gas. Station. Yup. Right on HWY 21 at the Chevron next to the State Park.

(see?? inside a gas station)

So now it's confessional time...the hubby and I have been in quite a few times recently (you know for research) and we have eaten things like...

Buffalo Gravy...or Poutine. (Do you know what that is?)

Oh my GEEZ I'm drooling.

In all seriousness though, this guy (his name is Brad and he's a really talented chef with some ACTUAL experience!) knows what he is doing. So if you're in the mood to try something delicious with a definite "East of Weird" flair, stop by. (I forgot to mention, Anything Go's...means anything goes so order how you want. But trust me when I say, just let the guy make you a burger!)

Don't forget to tell them a little birdie sent ya!

And now...I leave you with this.

Chirp chirp! Have you eaten here yet?? Tell us about it in the comments...what have you had?
